What is a country?
Look at a map and you'll see the world carved into colorful pieces — each one a country. But what makes a country a country? It's not just lines on paper. It's an agreement, a story people tell together, and a way of organizing who gets to decide what happens where.
A country is a place where one group of people agrees on the rules. Inside these borders, everyone follows the same laws — you drive on the same side of the road, use the same money, celebrate certain holidays. The government makes decisions for everyone: where schools go, how hospitals run, what you can and can't do.
