Score's Secret Power
Why do we keep score in games?

You're racing your friend to the swing set. You get there first. "I won!" you shout. But wait — did you really win if nobody was keeping track? Without a score, it's just two people running. With a score, it's a game.
Keeping score turns "doing stuff" into "playing a game." Imagine kicking a soccer ball around a field. Fun! Now imagine kicking that ball trying to get it past a goalie, and every time you do, you get a point. Suddenly every kick matters. You're not just playing — you're competing.
