How big is the universe?

The universe we can observe is roughly 93 billion light-years wide. That does not mean the whole universe ends there; it is only the region whose light has reached our instruments. Beyond that edge, there may be much more space, and some models allow it to go on without end.
A lovely scale detail: our Sun is enormous beside Earth, yet it is just one star among hundreds of billions in the Milky Way. And our galaxy is only one member of a vast cosmic crowd, with at least trillions of galaxies visible from here.
