A Wonderleaf question

How does a stock market work?

How does a stock market work?

a real page from the book

A stock market works by matching people who want to buy company shares with people who want to sell them. A share means partial ownership. Prices move when buyers and sellers disagree about what a company is worth, then settle on trades they both accept.

The neat detail is that a price is not a sticker chosen once. It keeps changing as news, hopes, worries, profits, and mistakes change people’s minds. Some owners may also receive dividends, which are payments from a company sharing part of its earnings.
