A Wonderleaf question

What happened to the city of Pompeii?

What happened to the city of Pompeii?

a real page from the book

Pompeii was a Roman city buried when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 CE. Ash and pumice fell first, then superhot flows of gas and volcanic debris swept through, covering streets, homes, shops, and people under a deep layer that hardened over time.

Because the city was sealed so quickly, it kept many ordinary details of Roman life. Archaeologists found wall writing, wheel marks, kitchens, courtyards, and even food, giving families today a strangely close look at one busy town from long ago.
