A Wonderleaf question

What is Petra, the city carved into rock?

What is Petra, the city carved into rock?

a real page from the book

Petra is an ancient city in Jordan where the Nabataeans shaped cliffs into tombs, temples, homes, and gathering places. It grew rich as a trading capital because caravans needed safe routes and water, and its tucked-away valley helped protect it from attack.

The loveliest part is how practical the place was. Behind the grand doorways, people built channels, dams, and cisterns to save rain in a dry land. A child can picture the city as stone, skill, and water working together.
