Why does the sun rise and set?

The sun seems to rise and set because Earth is turning. When your part of the planet rolls toward the sun, morning arrives. When it turns away, evening comes. The sun is still there; we are rotating on a huge round world.

That spin is steady enough that breakfast can sit on the table while Earth carries everything along together. Somewhere else, another child is meeting daylight just as your sky grows dark, because different places face the sun at different times.
