Wonderleaf Terms of Service

DRAFT — NOT YET PUBLISHED (2026-09-17). This revision is prepared for
founder review and is not the text live at
wonderleaf.app/terms. Publishing it is a founder action; until
then the published Terms remain the 2026-09-09 version. Publishing it also
has a precondition: the App Store Connect introductory offers (FREE_TRIAL /
ONE_WEEK) on both subscription products must be removed first, or the
iPhone storefront would still offer a trial these Terms say does not exist.

What changed (2026-09-17, draft): Wonderleaf no longer offers a free
trial. A subscription now starts and bills immediately: Wonderleaf Yearly at
$49.99 a year or Wonderleaf Monthly at $9.99 a month, both auto-renewing,
sold on the web through Stripe and in the iOS app through Apple In-App
Purchase. These Terms also state plainly what was already true in the
product: the Core and Wave wonders are free to read in full, with no account
and no payment. Nothing else changed.

What changed (2026-09-09): These Terms began describing the subscription
product that is actually live, sold on the web through Stripe and in the iOS
app through Apple In-App Purchase. The previous version of this page
described a retired product (a free tier with one custom book and a Plus
plan sold only through Stripe).

By using Wonderleaf, or by starting a subscription, you agree to these Terms.

1. What Wonderleaf is

Wonderleaf is an ad-free library of illustrated wonders that answer
everyday questions. The field, the association view, and search are free to
browse in every available language.

Part of the library is free to read in full, with no account and no payment:
the wonders Wonderleaf marks Core, and the wonders it marks Wave while their
wave is running. A Wave wonder stays free at the same address after its wave
ends. Opening any other wonder requires a paid subscription.

You do not need an account to browse. Wonderleaf has no comments, messaging,
uploads, or user-generated wonders. Everything in the library is selected and
published by Wonderleaf.

2. The reader and the account holder

A reader may be a child. The account holder and purchaser must be the child's
parent or legal guardian.

On the web, the parent uses their email address and a passwordless magic link
to sign in and buy. On iPhone, a purchase is made through Apple In-App
Purchase and the purchaser's Apple Account.

The parent or guardian is responsible for the child's use of the
subscription and for deciding which wonders are suitable for that child.

Wonderleaf explains history, biography, science, nature, and literature. Some
wonders may discuss war, slavery, prejudice, illness, poverty, death, religious
belief, conflict, or other serious subjects. Published wonders pass content and
quality review, but review is not a guarantee that every wonder will suit every
family.

3. Subscription

Wonderleaf offers two auto-renewing subscriptions:

There is no free trial. The subscription starts and is charged when the
purchase is made, and renews automatically at the end of each billing period
until it is cancelled. The annual option is shown first. Prices are in US
dollars. Wonderleaf may be required to collect tax on a web purchase,
calculated and added by Stripe at checkout; on iPhone, Apple may show the
local storefront price and any applicable tax.

A subscription is not needed to read the free part of the library described in
section 1, which stays free without an account.

A free trial that began before 2026-09-17 runs to the end of its trial period
and then renews as a paid subscription unless it is cancelled first.

Unless applicable law requires otherwise, cancelling stops the next
renewal and paid access continues until the end of the current billing period.

4. Buying on the web

Web subscriptions are sold through Stripe. The parent enters their email,
opens the magic link, and completes checkout with Stripe. Stripe handles the
payment method and may calculate and collect any tax required by law as part
of checkout. Wonderleaf does not receive or store the full payment-card
number.

The parent can manage or cancel a web subscription through the Stripe
Customer Portal linked from Wonderleaf.

Except where the law requires a refund or another remedy, web
subscription charges are not refundable or prorated after a billing period
starts.

EU and UK consumers may have a 14-day withdrawal right for digital
services unless the law allows that right to be waived after clear consent to
begin the service during the withdrawal period.

5. Buying on iPhone

iPhone subscriptions are sold through Apple In-App Purchase. Apple's terms
govern billing, refunds, and cancellation for those purchases. The purchaser
can manage or cancel the subscription in Apple Account settings and can ask
Apple for any available refund.

Wonderleaf supports restoring an eligible Apple purchase. A subscription
bought on the web may also be used in the app after the parent signs in with
the same Wonderleaf account.

6. What you may do

Wonderleaf grants you a personal, non-exclusive,
non-transferable licence to browse and read the library, save material through
features Wonderleaf provides, read wonders aloud, show them in a classroom, and
share links for personal, non-commercial use.

Wonderleaf and its licensors keep all rights in the wonders,
illustrations, product name, and software.

7. Accuracy and corrections

Wonderleaf is an educational library, not a reference of record. We aim for
every wonder to be correct, but errors can happen.

Do not rely on Wonderleaf for medical, legal, financial, or safety
decisions.

If something is wrong, use Corrections or email
hi@wonderleaf.app with the wonder link and what looks wrong.

8. Availability and account action

We may correct, add, remove, or unpublish a wonder. We may also change or stop a
feature or the service.

We may suspend or end access if an account holder abuses the
service, breaks these Terms, or tries to bypass the paywall, without limiting
any non-excludable consumer right.

To report material you believe infringes copyright, follow the process on our
Copyright / DMCA page or email dmca@wonderleaf.app. Send trademark
complaints to legal@wonderleaf.app.

10. Disclaimers

Wonderleaf is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE", without
warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness
for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, or uninterrupted
service, to the maximum extent the law permits.

Nothing in these Terms excludes a warranty or consumer protection
that cannot legally be excluded.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Wonderleaf's total liability
for a claim arising from the service is limited to the greater of the amount
the account holder paid Wonderleaf in the 12 months before the claim or USD
$50.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Wonderleaf is not liable for
indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages,
including loss of profits, data, business, or goodwill.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by
law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence,
fraud, or a consumer's non-excludable statutory rights.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. The current version will appear at
wonderleaf.app/terms with its last-updated date.

For a material change, we will give notice before it takes effect,
and any notice and consent process will follow applicable law.

13. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA,
without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.

Disputes will be resolved through binding individual arbitration
under the rules of the American Arbitration Association, except for
small-claims actions and intellectual-property injunctions, and class actions
are waived to the maximum extent permitted by law.

If you are a consumer in the European Economic Area or the United
Kingdom, this section does not take away the mandatory protection of the law
of your country of residence, and you may bring proceedings in that country's
courts where applicable law allows.

14. EU and UK information

Wonderleaf's Digital Services Act trader disclosure for EU App Store
territories is made through Apple App Store Connect, not in these Terms.

The trader disclosure must match the information verified and published by
Apple for Wonderleaf in every EU territory.
