A Wonderleaf question

What are protons, neutrons, and electrons?

What are protons, neutrons, and electrons?

a real page from the book

Protons, neutrons, and electrons are the small parts that make atoms. Protons sit in the atom's center and have positive charge; neutrons sit there too without charge; electrons move around the outside with negative charge. Together, they make the matter around us.

The number of protons gives an atom its element name, so changing that number changes what the atom is. Electrons are especially busy: they help atoms join into molecules, and moving electrons are what we call electric current.
