What are the mysterious Nazca Lines?

The Nazca Lines are huge ancient designs on the desert ground in Peru. The Nazca people made them by moving dark stones aside so paler earth showed through, forming animals, long paths, and shapes that are easiest to see from high above.
Archaeologists think many lines were tied to ceremony, water, and sky gods, because this was an extremely dry place. A family walking one long path may have been making a prayer with their feet, while a hummingbird or spider spread across the sand.
