What lives at the bottom of the ocean?

At the bottom of the ocean live animals built for darkness, cold, and huge water pressure: sea cucumbers, brittle stars, gulper eels, fangtooth fish, giant isopods, tube worms, and many others. Some hunt, some scavenge, and some feed on drifting scraps.
One of the strangest places is a hydrothermal vent, where hot mineral water pours from the seafloor. There, bacteria can turn chemicals into food, so whole communities can live without sunlight, including tube worms taller than many children.
