A Wonderleaf question

Why are there different languages?

Why are there different languages?

a real page from the book

Different languages exist because people did not begin with one worldwide way to talk. Small groups made and kept their own sounds for daily life, then distance, time, and habit changed those sounds. Mountains, oceans, and deserts often kept communities apart long enough for speech to grow separate.

The fun part is that language keeps changing even at home. Slang, accents, nicknames, and borrowed words all show speech on the move. Latin becoming Spanish, French, and Italian is one famous example of one source growing into several living voices.
