How does a cut turn into a scab?

A cut turns into a scab when platelets in the blood gather at the broken skin and help form a clot. A protein called fibrin makes a net that traps blood cells, and the clot dries into a firm cover.
Under that cover, the real repair keeps going. Skin cells spread from the edges, new tiny vessels grow, and white blood cells help handle germs. When the new skin is ready, the scab loosens and falls away.
