A starfish eats by gripping prey with many tube feet, easing a shell open, and sliding its stomach out through its mouth. The stomach enters the tiny gap, releases digestive juices, and turns the soft parts into food the starfish can pull back inside.
The patient part may charm kids most: a clam can clamp hard, yet it tires while the starfish keeps tugging. Those hundreds of soft feet are for moving too, so the same arms that stroll over rocks also help open dinner.
