A Wonderleaf question

What is the Great Barrier Reef?

What is the Great Barrier Reef?

a real page from the book

The Great Barrier Reef is a vast living reef system off Australia, made by countless tiny coral animals. Each coral polyp builds a hard limestone cup, and over many generations those cups pile up into reefs, islands, and sheltered homes for sea life.

Its color comes from algae living inside the coral, sharing food made from sunlight. When seas get too warm, coral can lose those partners and turn pale, a warning called bleaching. Even so, reef helpers grow young corals and replant damaged places.
