A Wonderleaf question

What is the longest river in the world?

What is the longest river in the world?

a real page from the book

Most books still name the Nile as the world's longest river. Some researchers argue the Amazon may be longer if you begin measuring from a very distant mountain stream in Peru. So the plain answer is: usually the Nile, with the Amazon as a serious challenger.

The puzzle comes from deciding where a river begins. Big rivers gather water from many smaller streams, and choosing one source over another changes the tape measure. The Amazon also carries far more water than any other river, whether or not it wins on length.
