Why is the moon sometimes out during the day?

The moon can show up in daylight because it is orbiting Earth while Earth turns. When your part of Earth faces the Sun, the Moon may still be above your horizon, reflecting sunlight toward you, so it appears pale against the bright blue sky.

Its shape matters too. Crescent moons often sit nearer the Sun in our sky, so they are easier to spot after sunrise or before sunset. A full moon usually rises near sunset and sets near sunrise, which is why it feels more like a nighttime visitor.
