What is the Taj Mahal?

The Taj Mahal is a white-marble tomb in Agra, India, built in the 1600s by Emperor Shah Jahan for his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It is both a memorial and one of the world’s most carefully designed buildings.
Its marble can look different as the light changes, so the same walls may seem rosy in morning, warm near evening, or pale at night. The gardens, pools, dome, and towers are arranged with calm symmetry that children can actually spot.
