Why is the Sagrada Família still being built?

The Sagrada Família is still being built because Antoni Gaudí planned an enormous, detailed church, then died long before it was finished. Later builders had to work from damaged models and incomplete plans, while money, wars, engineering challenges, and careful stone carving slowed everything down.
One lovely detail is that the building is both a church and a job site at once. Visitors can stand under branching stone columns while cranes work outside, adding towers and sculpture to an idea that began in Barcelona in 1882.
