A Wonderleaf question

a real page from the book
Your stomach growls because the muscles in your digestive system keep squeezing even when there is not much food inside. Those squeezes move pockets of air and fluid through narrow spaces, and the jiggling air makes the rumbling sound you hear.
The growl can seem louder before a meal because an emptier belly leaves more open space for sound to echo. Hunger can also make the gut squeeze more strongly, as if it is tidying up and getting ready for the next snack.
Listen before dinner, then again after eating, and compare how loud your belly sounds.
