Why does hair grow?

Hair grows because living cells inside each skin pocket, or follicle, keep making new cells. The newer cells press older ones outward, where they harden into the strand you can brush, braid, wash, or trim.
Those cells need food from the blood, which brings oxygen and building materials. Different hairs follow different timers, so head hair can grow for years while eyebrows stop sooner; that is why eyebrows do not become long curtains over your eyes.
