A Wonderleaf question

Why is it called the funny bone?

Why is it called the funny bone?

a real page from the book

The funny bone is called that because the spot is strange, and maybe because of a pun. The jolt comes from the ulnar nerve near your elbow, not from a bone. Hit it just right, and the nerve sends tingles toward your hand.

One nearby arm bone is the humerus, which sounds like humorous, so the name may have started as wordplay. There is also an older meaning of funny: unusual. That fits the odd buzzing feeling better than a joke does.
