A Wonderleaf question

Why was the Statue of Liberty built?

Why was the Statue of Liberty built?

a real page from the book

The Statue of Liberty was built as a gift from France to the United States to honor liberty, friendship, and the end of slavery after the Civil War. Its torch, tablet, and huge harbor presence were meant to show that freedom should be seen and shared.

One wonderful detail is that many ordinary people helped make it happen. French supporters raised money for the statue, Americans raised money for the base, and even children sent coins. The finished figure crossed the ocean in pieces before being assembled in New York Harbor.
